What we have learned
Linux is the superior platform offering greater flexibility than packaged solutions on a proprietary OS
Also it's not purely about cost, a lot of what we've done we couldn't have achieved on Windows
It is a myth about the cost of managing Linux
- Although an MCSE may cost less than a UNIX engineer, to gain the level of integration required in an enterprise system, a similarily skilled Microsoft engineer would cost the same.
- A Microsoft Point and Click based system may require cheaper staff but more overall labour due to a lack of integration (many admistrators doing point and click setup in many different services).
A good system requires highly skilled staff
